Everybody Must Know

There’s a rose staring at my face
Such a lovely thing
And there’s voices moving through this space
And they sometimes sing

There’s a power in that flower
And it’s got to grow
Everybody
Everybody must know

There’s a tremor humming through this place
Like a quivering
And the error of a thousand ways
Misses everything

Don’t be dour in this hour
Laugh and let it go
Everybody
Everybody must know

There’s a smile climbing in your eyes
Through the broken glass
It took a while for it to rise and shine
Everything must pass

Couldn’t quit it in a minute
Flowing strong and slow
Everybody
Everybody must know

Flashes 32

A cigarette
smoker’s
rebellion

Some people
aren’t yet tired
of being suckers

Las Vegas:
Gehenna
as shopping mall

*

The openness
of
lonesomeness

It’s like he’s
humping himself
when he talks to you

That job will
make you take
the world too seriously

*

Less “myself,”
strangers say
I look familiar

Perceiving everything
through the prism
of one’s prejudice

What have you done
for your third eye
lately?

*

A noble goal:
to be less full of shit
than the average asshole

I am quiet.
I let others
talk.

Howling
in the center of me,
Brother Loneliness!

*

No real justice
comes from
insulting someone

Old men
gazing at
newspapers

Take
your
meditation

*

People
raging to adapt
to the unadaptable

No
I won’t
hurry for this train

The Placebo Effect
is still
an effect!

*

Could you
do your job
without coffee?

It’s all a mirror—
but it’s not you
in the mirror

In San Francisco
missing
San Francisco

9 Haiku

Watching winter rain
through a restaurant’s window—
forgetting the rest

Here’s another man
broken from the busy world
looking much like me

Like Kerouac’s moon
this December sliver is
“the toe nail of God”

*

Roaring lions mute
in the rough granite moldings
of an old building

That ancient face
nesting in an old palm tree
seems to be weeping

Springtime in the park—
life could be an orgy,
but why is it not?

*

Limousine chauffeur
more poised and handsomely dressed
than his passenger

Clubfooted pigeon
eases right between my feet—
plucks some fallen meat

Sitting in lotus
on a downtown bench at lunch—
socks with stupid names

Space Alien Sympathy

I know you are upset with what
The world is like—
All you humans are

I know you are acquainted with
Lonely nights—
All you humans are

Throw back the curtain
Let me see you, dear
Let me be certain
You are really here!

I know you are uncertain almost
All the time—
All you humans are

I know you are inclined to chase
A wild ride—
All you humans are

Throw back the curtain
Let me see you, dear
Let me be certain
You are really here!

I know you are a dreamer and a
Wide-eyed child—
All you humans are

I know you are unsure the work is
Worth your while—
All you humans are

Throw back the curtain
Let me see you, dear
Let me be certain
You are really here!
