Here
you are
with yourself

Such a muddy priest—
indeed a man
who needs a God’s Day

After A Long, Deep Embrace
He: Oh. The world.
She: Who put that there?

*

Amazed at how every
one on the bus treated
each other decently

We all
must relate
angel-to-angel

We forget that we stand
in divine light—
and then we remember again

*

Musicians—
always tooting
their own horns!

Fascination
rather than
obsession

An endless
series of
firsts

*

Those for whom humanity
is a nagging
inconvenience

Music—
is my solace from loneliness
making me lonely?

Pretty enough
to make
you dream

*

Taking good
care of yourself
is prayer

Live and learn.
And forget.
And remember again.

Tears can
make you see
more clearly

*

People are
only as good
as you are

Only illusion
requires such
vehemence

Buddha’s example:
calm clear-eyed
child on the train

Bigger Than Beauty

You left a gift of guessing
Eyes like glowing stones
A blessedness, an essence
Beyond all I’ve known

I feel glad and reeling
Awake while I am dreaming
Don’t know where it’s leading
But what this is…I’ve got to know

It’s bigger than the beauty
Of your sparkling smile
A sacred ancient duty
Infinite and wild

I can barely see it
But know I’ve always needed
With all my aching being
What this is…I’ve got to know

The whisper of your difference
Awakening the air
A murmur in the distance
Resonant and clear

Once we hear the music
We begin to groove with
The rhythm of the future
What this is…We’ve got to know

9 Haiku

Looked for my mother
through her porch window and saw
summer trees instead!

Butterfly flitting
among rising and falling
breaths of cicadas

In the airport I
sit behind a tv set
and try not to think

*

Plane before take-off—
white fumes of cold air gusting
from the baggage bins

Bobbing in the wind
on a palm frond near my face—
tiny hummingbird

Giving a broke man
a dollar is not justice—
but it is kindness

*

Caught myself thinking
while strolling through the pink dusk
and said “Blah blah blah!”

A grunt of protest
from the cat when I lift her
off some heaped blankets

Too freaking many
people on this planet—
and I’m one of them

.

Fallling Star

He caught a falling star and
Put it in his pocket
Saved it for a rainy day

Used his thoughts for fuel and
Sailed off on a rocket
Better than the other way

All I’ve have is this power
In my mind
History’s treating me
So unkind

The voices and the noise the
Slander and the gossip
Brothers tear each other down

A little drop of love drips
From a rusty faucet
All the other poisons drown

All I’ve have is this power
In my mind
History’s treating me
So unkind

Rulers use the rules to
Fill up all their pockets
Slaves to all the games they play

Lovers live for love what
Plugs them in the socket
To power them another way

All I’ve have is this power
In my mind
History’s treating me
So unkind
