9 Haiku

Fellow travelers’
faces gazing into dreams—
the blank morning sun

The beermug’s shadow
makes a long grinning skullface
on the tablecloth

Shambling out the gate—
a thread of a web clinging
to my sleepy face

*

A row of three holes
in a bank of morning clouds—
sun glowing through them

I crush a fat fly
on the wall with a book—thwack!
Feed it to the cat

Among young people
downtown at lunchtime—they’re all
discussing business!

*

Looked for myself in
a window—but wasn’t there!
Blocked by a big plant

Face in a tree’s bark
considers a friend’s whispered
suggestions, smiling

The rain pattering
on lush umbrella palm fronds—
small soft silver coins

.
