9 Haiku

Looked for my mother
through her porch window and saw
summer trees instead!

Butterfly flitting
among rising and falling
breaths of cicadas

In the airport I
sit behind a tv set
and try not to think

*

Plane before take-off—
white fumes of cold air gusting
from the baggage bins

Bobbing in the wind
on a palm frond near my face—
tiny hummingbird

Giving a broke man
a dollar is not justice—
but it is kindness

*

Caught myself thinking
while strolling through the pink dusk
and said “Blah blah blah!”

A grunt of protest
from the cat when I lift her
off some heaped blankets

Too freaking many
people on this planet—
and I’m one of them

.
