9 Haiku

Summer in winter—
in a knot in a wood fence
an old laughing face

Summer in winter—
cat in a backyard garden
crouched under birdsong

Summer in winter—
long lines of lit cars leaving
the beaches at night

*

A restless ocean
swallowing the bright lozenge
of a sinking sun

Walking home at night
past stony hilltop mansions—
palace fortress tombs

Two raspy voices
barking through a garage door
at a passing pup

*

The neighbors’ voices
through the fence abruptly stop—
do they know I’m here?

Star of a lit ship
and a low orange full moon
fading at sunrise

Winter night—two men
singing blues under the stars,
dancing with guitars

.
